It always frustrates me when batters can’t make first base on a hit. I should give them more credit, as I’m sure they are running as fast as they can, but it never looks that way on the TV screen.
Today’s question:
Why are batters not allowed to slide into first base?
In my mind, you are supposed to go all out when you play–do whatever it takes to win the game. Doesn’t it make sense, then, that if players take such dramatic risks to steal second and third, they would also up their game to make it to first?
Any batter that would like to slide into first may do so. The reason batters tend not to is because it takes longer to slide then to run through the bag. Hopefully this helps from one fan to another!
